The results of an election can affect many different aspects of your life. Students may feel a range of emotions before, during and after an election, particularly if they have strong opinions about the winner. In this time of increasing political polarization, students might need guidance on finding reliable information and on coping with uncertainty.
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) compiles information about elections, including election results, but it does not certify the results. Instead, state election offices are responsible for certifying results. To access these results, you can visit their websites.
The 2024 election resulted in a Republican trifecta with control of the presidency, house and senate. The GOP expanded their majority in the Senate, picking up seats in Montana, Ohio and West Virginia and narrowly avoiding contentious losses in Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin. The Republicans retained control of the House, holding all incumbents and flipping only three seats. The President-elect Trump will be able to pass new legislation through Congress because of their majority in the House and Senate. He will also be able to implement his proposed policies, such as tax reform and infrastructure spending. However, his ability to pass sweeping legislation will depend on whether he can maintain the support of the moderate wing of the Republican party.
